Government warns of fake Anastasiades accounts on social media

The government warned on Wednesday that in recent days accounts have appeared on social media under the name of President Nicos Anastasiades that are fake.

“These accounts have nothing to do with the President of the Republic or the government,” a brief announcement said.

In some cases, it added, the appropriated the status of the president and caused mistaken impressions and on occasion asked for money under various pretexts.

“We ask the public to especially careful regarding these phenomena. Those cases that have been detected have been reported to the police who will take appropriate action,” it added.

Anastasiades account on Twitter has a blue logo with a checkmark, which indicates the account has been verified and is authentic.
