Guinness record attempt to be held in Paphos on Sunday

The current record for the largest ‘Hasapiko Dance’ is held by the Larnaca municipality

A group of 1,200 people will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘Hasapiko Dance’ in Paphos on Sunday.

The event, to be held at the Paphos Castle at 4pm, was organised by the Archangel Michael Hospice, the non-profit organisation ‘Ktima’, and the municipality.  The proceeds of the charity event will go to the hospice.

According the event organisers, in order to break the record over 1,200 people will have to dance to the traditional Greek tune, ‘Hasapiko’, for five minutes straight.

The current record for the largest ‘Hasapiko Dance’ is held by the Larnaca municipality.  The record was achieved in 2010, when 749 people danced to the Greek melody in the city’s Europe Square.
