Arrest after police chase

A man was arrested late on Sunday near Pyla after police fired shots at his car in an attempt to stop him from escaping.

Around 11.30pm members of Pyla’s special task force signalled to the car to stop on the Larnaca – Dhekelia road in the tourist area of Oroklini.

The driver picked up speed and was chased by the police car.

During the pursuit the police vehicle hit the back of the car and eventually officers fired shots to force the driver to pull over.

The 46-year-old man was arrested and ten grammes of cannabis were found when his car was searched.

The suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday.
