In life there are two kinds of people; those who live life through the stories of others and those who take it by the horns and savour every minute. These two kinds of people are very much at the two ends of the spectrum in the classic novel Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis. The two men in the story will show how, once we find the rhythm, all we have to do is dance in the theatrical adaptation by Thanasis Papathanasiou and Michalis Repas.
After its success in Greece, the play is now getting ready to tour Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca for five performances.
The story, which is accompanied with the music by Greek composer Nikos Theodorakis, concentrates on a young Greek intellectual who ventures to escape his bookish life with the aid of the energetic and mysterious Alexis Zorbas.
Zorbas has a zest and love for life. His impulsive manner and larger than life character speaks directly to the audience and by doing so, we are faced with the true meaning of life and what the soul can accomplish once it knows no boundaries.
Greek actor Grigoris Valtinos takes on the role of Alexis Zorbas, and the play is directed by Stamatis Fasoulis.
