Car accident on highway, hospital equipment not working

Two drivers were injured on Wednesday night on the Ayia Napa – Larnaca highway in a crash that caused two lanes to close.

The accident happened at around 8pm when a rental car at the Oroklini exit didn’t go towards the Rizoelia roundabout but instead went on the wrong lane on the Ayia Napa highway.

It consequently collided with another rental car on the highway driving from Ayia Napa.

Head of the Larnaca traffic police Haris Hadjiyiasemi said both drivers were Greek Cypriot. One of the drivers was an 88-year-old woman and a man aged 50.

Both drivers were injured and an ambulance took them to Larnaca general hospital.  As the CT scan was not operating, they were transferred to Nicosia general hospital for the scan.

Information about the condition of their health was not immediately available.

Two lanes were temporarily closed due to the accident.
