LGBT activist appointed president’s adviser for diversity

AcceptLGBT Cyprus’ Costas Gavrielides has been appointed as the president’s adviser for promoting multiculturalism, acceptance and respect for diversity, he announced on Wednesday.

In a post on Facebook, Gavrielides shared the news announced during the pride parade over the weekend, specifying he would be doing the job without getting a salary.

The aim of his appointment is to create a national committee to promote multiculturalism, acceptance and respect for diversity, which will promote informing the public in a bid to combat prejudice, homophobia and transphobia.

The committee will also promote measures that fight against prejudice of LGBT people in their day to day life and professional careers, Gavrielides said.
