Christiana Erotokritou has been elected deputy chairperson of centre-right Diko after party elections on Sunday for leader positions.
Her challenger for the post Marinos Moushoutas received 36 per cent of the vote to Erotokritou’s 63.96 per cent or 4,008 votes.
The three new vice-presidents elected were Antonis Antoniou with 3,133 votes, Alecos Tryfonides with 2,310 votes and Michalis Damianos with 2,007.
Out of 33,000 registered party members, barely 7,000 turned out to vote across districts on Sunday.
In total, 6,803 exercised their vote. The total vote in Nicosia was 2,456, in Limassol 1,059, in Famagusta (living in Larnaca) 289, in the free area of Famagusta 372, in Larnaca 797, and in Paphos 1,830.
Party leader Nicolas Papadopoulos remains in position as there were no challengers.
He said on Sunday the vote would herald a new era for the party, which experienced internal strife during the presidential elections this year, which Papadopoulos challenged and lost. In the aftermath, many party members left and others were expelled for not supporting Papadopoulos.
