The remains of the car after the accident

A 14-year-old boy was in intensive care at Nicosia general hospital on Monday after a road accident in the morning in Livadia village in the Larnaca district.

Harris Hadjiyassemis, head of the Larnaca traffic division told the Cyprus News Agency the accident happened around 6am when the teen was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old who lost control of the car, which then overturned repeatedly before rolling into a five-metre ditch.

Both injured were taken to Larnaca hospital where the elder of the two was stabilised but the boy had to be transferred to Nicosia due to the severity of his injuries. There he was placed in intensive care.

Hadjiyassemis said police were investigating the exact circumstance of the accident, whether the 20-year-old driving had been drinking and whether the pair were wearing seat belts.
