If the week seems to be dragging, once you understand what Friday has in store the days might start moving faster than you think.
Nostalgia party fans can wave their hands and mobile phones in the air at the Powerhouse Restaurant in Nicosia from 9pm all the way to 2am with some rocking tracks from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. The last time the Nostalgia parties dedicated a night to rock was two years ago, and the night promises to fill the musical void completely.
The night will begin with a live performance by BigMoNik, who are Nikolis Christodoulou and Emmanuel Vourakis on vocals and acoustic guitar and Marios Michael on bass. The trio will do what they do best, deliver a mix of classic rock and blues music covers in an abundant variety of rhythms, vibe and improvisations. Music and voice will combine to make sure we are put into a rocking mood.
After the live performance, DJs Claudio and Honston G will be on the decks with some old time, rock classics.
If you also like a little football with your rocking music, the restaurant – which will be serving food all the way through the event – will be screening the Portugal vs Spain match on a big screen in a separate area.
The entrance fee is €8 with €1 from every ticket going to the Cyprus Family Planning Association to support the association’s cause and actions.
Also on Friday, a string of live performances by the Brit Invasion Band will begin in Paphos. The five-piece cover band, which is coming over to our shores for the first time, showcases a wide repertoire of classic British music from the 1960s to today. The theme of the band is also nostalgia and the highly experienced musicians Stu, Adam, Richie, Rick and a second Stu will surely remind of the great pop and rock songs that have come out of Britain since the 60s, when Britannia ruled the airwaves.
The shows – at Ampelones in Paphos on Friday, at Pissouri Amphitheatre on Saturday and at the Monte Liza in Paphos on Sunday – will feature hits from a wide variety of performers. These will include The Who, The Small Faces, The Searchers, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Dave Clark Five, The Fortunes, The Spencer Davis Group, The Animals, Gerry and The Pacemakers, Herman’s Hermits and many more. They will also present one-hit wonders such as Have I the Right? by the Honeycombs and Hippy Hippy Shake by the Swinging Blue Jeans.
If you prefer a more modern Greek sound, then Limassol is where you should head for a live performance by the Greek band Melisses. After vocalist Chris Mastoras brought the band members together in 2008, the band was one of the finalists who could have represented Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010. They didn’t manage to be part of the big event, but the song their song – ‘Kinezos’ (Chinese Man) – was enough to get them noticed.
The band performed at the MAD Video Music Awards that year, and the year after, and released their debut album Mistika (Secrets). From there on in, the band has released single after single and have given performance after performance, and the next one they will give is just for us.
