New fatality on Nicosia roads

Lakatamia resident George Xenofontos, 29, was killed in a traffic accident on Sunday that occurred at around 1pm on Makedonitissis in Strovolos.

According to police, under circumstances that are still being investigate, the moped being driven by the 29-year-old along Makedonitissis towards Strovolos crashed with a car in front of him, which was being driven in the same direction by a 58-year-old.

The motorcyclist was trapped under the car while his bike continued to move down the road before crashing into a car parked at the side of the road.

Members of the fire service rescued Xenofontos from the under the car before an ambulance took him to Nicosia General hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.

According to the police, he was wearing a helmet. The 58-year-old driver of the car was not injured.
