Man finds wife dead at bottom of pool

A 57-year-old woman from Portugal was found dead by her husband, 72, at the bottom of the swimming pool in their house in Liopetri at 11pm on Sunday.

The husband, a British resident of Liopetri, unsuccessfully tried to take his wife out of the water and fractured his foot in the effort.

The man was hospitalised at Famagusta general hospital while police officers removed the woman from the pool.

She had no external injuries and the exact causes of her death are expected to be revealed by a post mortem to be carried out on Monday.
