A minute with Alice Ayvazian Lead vocalist with Steppin’ Out Jazz Band and voice teacher

Where do you live?
I live in Nicosia, I’m married and we have a 5 year old son.

Best childhood memory?
Going up to the Troodos mountains for picnics with my family.

Most frequented restaurant and absolute favourite dish? What food would you really turn your nose up to?
I really like Akakiko. One of my favourite dishes would have to be lamb chops and I don’t like anything too spicy.

What did you have for breakfast?
I had a slice of toast with turkey and cheese.

Would you class yourself as a day or night person? What’s your idea of the perfect night/day out?
I love spending the day with my family and performing at night with Steppin’ Out!

Best book ever read?
A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith. I liked the protagonist’s constant desire to improve herself no matter what.

Favourite film of all time?
That would be Wizard of Oz (1939) because it was so imaginatively shot as a film with an amazing musical score and cast.

Best holiday ever taken?
I went to Armenia for the first time 2 years ago. It was a very emotional journey for me since I have Armenian heritage.

What music are you listening to in the car at the moment?
I’m listening to Carmen McRae, specifically the album Carmen sings Monk.

What is always in your fridge?
Cherry juice (my son’s favorite)!

Dream house: rural retreat or urban dwelling? Where would it be, what would it be like?
Urban dwelling since I’ve always been a city girl.

If you could pick anyone at all (alive or dead) to go out for the evening with, who would it be?
I would pick Ella Fitzgerald because I consider her to be one of the greatest Jazz vocalists – a true inspiration!

If the world is ending in 24 hours what would you do?
Spend the entire 24 hours with my family and loved ones.

What is your greatest fear?
I’m not a fan of insects in general!
