Protest against high rents in Limassol (VIDEO)

On June 23, ‘Limassol for All’ – an unofficial local group, recently formed following a call for a protest on social media – organised a demonstration outside the Limassol district administration office on Anexartisias Street, protesting against rents in the city which have jumped by around 25 per cent in under two years.

The protest was against the rents specifically, but also against a larger situation which the organisers claim has led to the problem – namely, a concerted effort to attract foreign capital, partly through high-profile projects like the construction of tall buildings, leading to a more expensive housing market which has priced out local residents.

The protest called, above all, for a “Limassol for the many, not for the few”.
