Dr Stamatoula Panagakou, a member of the teaching staff of the University of Cyprus has been awarded the 2018 Political Studies Association (PSA) Jennie Lee Prize for Outstanding Teaching.
“The prize is awarded to a teacher who has shown evidence of their students actively engaging in learning, that challenges and supports them to develop their knowledge and skills in political studies, and who has successfully overcome obstacles in the teaching of political studies,” the judging panel said in a statement.
Dr Panagakou is a member of the Department of Social and Political Sciences and has also taught politics at the Universities of York, Durham, Newcastle and Manchester in the UK.
Rector of UCy Professor Constantinos Christofides said, that Dr Panagakou’s teaching excellence has been recognised by her students and her international colleagues.
“Dr Panagakou is a committed and enthusiastic lecturer who connects teaching and research, contributes to a culture of active learning, promotes the study of political theory and political science, and inspires her students with her teaching,” he said.
