Artymata writes history for Cypriot athletics

Eleni Artymata

Eleni Artymata clinched the gold medal in women’s 400m at the Mediterranean Games, securing Cyprus’ third gold medal and increasing its medal tally to five.

Artymata won the gold clocking a time of 51.19, recording a new national record.

According to the Cyprus Olympic Committee, Artymata becomes the first Cypriot athlete to clinch gold in three successive Mediterranean Games, following Almeria in 2009, and Mersin in 2013, recording a new historic record for Cypriot participations in the Mediterranean Games since 1983.

She became the first Cypriot female athlete to secure six medals for Cyprus.

“All these achievements highlight its rare talent and its sustain victories placing Artymata at the top of Cyprus female athletics,” COE said, congratulating Artymata, her coach Antonis Giannoulakis and Cyprus Amateur Athletic Association.
