Funerals for victim of tragic accidents

The funeral services for two victims of recent accidents, five-year-old Maria-Christina Demetriou and 42-year-old Giorgos Georgiou, are being held on Wednesday.

The funeral of the little girl will be at 3pm at the Panayia Faneromeni church in Larnaca.

She was killed after her family’s vehicle, driven by the father, collided with another car and overturned on the Famagusta to Larnaca motorway on June 25.

The 34-year-old man driver of the other vehicle has pleaded guilty to causing the fatal road collision while under the influence of prescription drugs. He had fallen asleep at the wheel.

The family has requested that those attending the funeral wear white or pink tops during the service.

Mourners are asked to offer donations Instead of wreaths.

At 4.30pm the funeral of Giorgos Georgiou from Larnaca will be held at Ayios Panteleimonas church in Meneou.

Georgiou, an employee of the electricity authority, was in a lifting cage pruning trees which were in the way of electrical cables when it fell to the ground from a height of four metres on July 2.

Under conditions which are being investigated the cage was separated from the aerial lift to which it was attached.

The employee hit his head on the asphalt and though he was immediately taken to Larnaca hospital which is close by doctors could only confirm his death.

He was married and had three children.

The family is asking for donations for the children instead of flowers.
