President to meet new UN envoy

The new UN envoy Jane Holl Lute

President Nicos Anastasiades will be meeting the new UN envoy on July 23 to discuss the potential of resuming reunification talks a year after they broke down in Switzerland.

According to an unnamed source quoted by the Cyprus News Agency, the president was expected to meet Jane Holl Lute on Monday, July 23.

Lute will also see Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci.

Lute has been asked by UNSG Antonio Guterres to determine whether there were grounds for a resumption of the talks, which broke down last year at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana.

The UN envoy will be touring the region at the end of this month. She also expected to hold talks with Greece and Turkey.
