Arrested man wanted in north in connection with murder

A 23-year-old was arrested on Thursday night who is wanted in the north for the premeditated murder of a 54-year-old Turkish Cypriot.

The foreigner had been wanted in the north in connection with the murder.

A police source told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that he was arrested for illegal entry and stay in the Republic.

He is wanted in connection with the premeditated murder of the Turkish Cypriot who was found dead in Trikomo in September.

Police received a tip off at around 5pm on Thursday that the man was seen walking down the street in Limassol.

A police patrol in the area picked him up and took him to the Limassol CID station, where he said he had entered the Republic without passing through a checkpoint. A warrant for his arrest was secured and he was taken into custody at around 10pm.

A 20-year-old from the same country who is a student living legally on the island was arrested with him on the grounds of giving asylum to an illegal immigrant, as the 23-year-old was staying at his apartment.
