A group of 29 refugees from Syria spotted off Cape Greco were escorted by the marine police to the Ayios Nicolaos harbour in Protaras on Friday afternoon.

The inflatable boat was traced by marine police radar at around 12.50 pm sailing southeast of Cape Greco in Protaras.

A vessel from marine police went in the area and escorted the boat to the Ayios Nicolaos harbour.  There were 14 men, six women and nine children on board.

The refugees told police they were from Syria and had set off from Lebanon.

After their identity is confirmed, they will be transferred to the temporary reception centre in Kokkinotrimithia, in Nicosia.
