A former Limassol community leader was arrested on Monday in connection with his alleged involvement in the squandering of €44,000 in public money.

The case was reported as far back as February 21, 2017 by a Limassol district administration official who found a €44,000 deficit while auditing community funds in January.

Subsequent investigations by the audit committee and the police raised suspicions regarding the involvement of the former leader of the community, for whom an arrest warrant was issued last Friday.

According to police, following his arrest, the former community leader admitted his involvement in cases relating to theft by a public official, misuse of power, and money laundering.
