Authorities in Cyprus arrested a Russian national wanted in his country for fraud, it was reported on Tuesday.

The man is wanted on suspicion of stealing €300,000.

The 48-year-old was detained at Larnaca airport following his arrival from Beirut at around 1.30 pm.

Officers at passport control saw that his name had been placed on a stop list after Russia issued an international warrant for his arrest in December last year.

He is expected to be brought before a court in Larnaca on Tuesday to start the extradition process.
