Search and rescue services prepare for annual exercise

For the fifth consecutive year, on Wednesday, October 31 the large-scale multinational search and rescue exercise ‘Nemesis’ will take place in the Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone.

The purpose of the exercise is to further develop effective cooperation and coordination between all of Cyprus’ relevant services with neighbouring states for the immediate response to emergencies on merchant vessels and oil rigs as well as to other humanitarian operations in the Eastern Mediterranean.

According to a statement by the defence ministry, the exercise will involve a large number of aircraft and personnel from Cyprus and foreign countries.

Nemesis will be coordinated by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Larnaca in close cooperation with the rescue coordination centres of participating countries.
