Arrest after explosives thrown at property

A 36-year-old man was arrested in Nicosia on Sunday afternoon after a hand grenade was thrown overnight at a house.

Police said they are investigating two cases of attempting to destroy property with the use of explosive substances.

The incidents happened on Friday and Saturday, against the property of a 46-year-old nightclub owner.

At 6.35 on Friday morning police were informed that an explosion had taken place at a nightclub in Strovolos, which damaged the glass doors at the front of the building.

Police at the scene said the damage was caused by a low grade explosive device.

The second incident occurred at 9.30 on Saturday night when a hand grenade was thrown at the 46-year-old’s house although it did not detonate.

Police swept the scene and collected evidence. The hand grenade was neutralised by members of the police bomb squad.

Nicosia CID is investigating.
