DUST levels are higher than normal the Labour Ministry announced on Saturday, with levels as of 7am having reached between 40 μg/m3 and 417 μg/m3.
It said that the average levels of dust are expected to be higher than the 50 μg/m3 limit throughout the day.
On Friday, dust levels were measured between 23 μg/m3 and 74 μg/m3 across the island, affecting visibility on the roads.
The ministry said that due to the small size of the dust particles and the potential negative effects on public health and especially the health of vulnerable individuals (elderly, children and patients), people should limit travelling in open spaces until the dust has passed.
According to the ministry statement, employers should take the appropriate measures to protect workers in open areas, and the employees should take care to protect themselves.
