A minute with Christos Kakoulli (CRS) Stencil Artist

Where do you live?
If you ask the people closest to me, they’d tell you that I live in my workshop because that’s where I spend most of my time and nights, but the truth is that I live with my family and my wife in Lakatamia.

Best childhood memory?

The first time I held a spray can in my hands at age 12, it’s been love at first sight since then.
Most frequented restaurant and absolute favourite dish? What food would you really turn your nose up to? I’d say I especially like fish taverns, but of course my favourite food is grandma’s yemista (stuffed vegetables. I’d turn my nose up at green peas.

What did you have for breakfast?

Spinach pie Would you class yourself as a day or night person? What’s your idea of the perfect night/day out? Night person. The best nights are those in the art studio with music, inspiration, and the smell of paint.

Best book ever read?

The Last Temptation by Nikos Kazantzakis. I’ve always been mesmerised by the way Kazantzakis writes but I think in this book he really outdid himself and touched on a more human side of Christ. He made him a human with needs and this made me see many things differently.

Favourite film of all time?

Run Forest Run… Forrest Gump. Where to begin and where to end, Tom Hank’s performance, Forrest’s love for his fellow human, the love of his life and his determination.

Favourite holiday destination? What’s your dream trip?

I don’t travel much due my fear of planes but also due to lack of time. But my favourite holiday destination was London, where I went with my best friends. My dream trip would be to Palestine and Costa Rica.

What music are you listening to in the car at the moment?

What is always in your fridge?

Dream house: rural retreat or urban dwelling? Where would it be, what would it be like?

I’d say my dream house is very simple, I’m not someone who likes expensive or really big houses. I’d like it to be on a mountain with a beautiful view and have a big workshop inside.

If you could pick anyone at all (alive or dead) to go out for the evening with, who would it be?

Banksy, and I’d like to learn as much as possible, since I’ve always wanted to know what hides behind that genius mind.
If the world is ending in 24 hours what would you do? I’d find a place with a perfect view and I’d lie there drawing, having my family, my wife and my friends with me. What is your greatest fear? Airplanes and to be buried alive.

Tell me a joke…

Knock, knock
Who’s there?
Nun who?
Nun of your business!

The municipality of Lakatamia recently unveiled an indoor work of grafitti by CRS, which it said was the first such project in Europe.
