A 21-year-old man lost his life in a traffic accident late on Sunday night in the Nicosia village of Dali.
According to a police statement, Fedias Savvides, 21, was driving along Tefkros Anthia Avenue in the industrial estate of Dali towards the old Nicosia-Limassol highway.
At one point, under circumstances which are still being investigated, lost control of the vehicle which then hit the curb, a fence and an electricity pole, which brought the car to a standstill.
From the impact the car caught fire, which was put out by some passing people before it was able to reach the inside of the car and before the police and fire service were able to arrive.
Firemen cut the 21-year-old out of the car who was then taken by ambulance to Nicosia general hospital, where doctors certified his death.
Meanwhile, an 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed in an accident on October 28 Avenue on Saturday afternoon, police announced early Sunday.
Marios Amanatides was riding along the avenue at 6.40pm when his motorbike collided with a car. After being thrown from his vehicle and sliding along the road, he became trapped underneath a parked car and had to be cut free by firefighters.
Amanatides was taken to Limassol hospital where doctors confirmed his death.
According to police deputy spokesman, Stelios Stylianou, Savvides was the 46th victim of fatal road accidents this year.
