UCY supports fight to stamp out illegal bird-trapping

Members of BirdLife, Terra Cypria and the university

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the University of Cyprus on November 8 with the Terra Cypria Foundation and BirdLife Cyprus. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the rector of the University of Cyprus, Constantinos Christofides, on behalf of BirdLife Cyprus by Menelaos Charalambides and on behalf of Terra Cypria by Lefkios Sergides.

The main purpose of the memorandum is to promote awareness of the environment in society and to seek ways of changing the way of thinking about the issue of illegal trapping of migratory birds.

This objective is to be achieved through the environmental education of university students, cooperation on water management and the provision of expertise by academics and researchers from the University of Cyprus to environmental organisations.
