Police raid coffee shop in Polis, charging poker players

The crime prevention unit raided a traditional coffee shop in Polis Chrysochous on Tuesday night, where they found and charged seven gamblers participating in a game of poker, as well as the owner of the premises.

The men will be summoned in the coming days, police said.

The officers found and confiscated 104 playing cards and 30 poker chips of different colours.

Police usually step up gambling raids at Christmas time as people engage more in traditional card games throughout the holiday season.
