Police in Famagusta arrested a 32-year-old on Thursday on suspicion of possession of cannabis and ancient artefacts.

The man was detained following a search of his home by drug squad officers on Thursday afternoon. During the search, officers found a briefcase containing various artefacts, including coins, believed to be old.

They also found two metal detectors for which the suspect had no permit. A mobile phone was also found, which the 32-year-old said he found on a beach in the Famagusta area but failed to turn in to the authorities.

Elsewhere in the house, officers discovered 19.5 grammes of cannabis in three plastic bags, a grinder, and a precision scale.
