Men remanded for car arson

Two men, 23, were remanded in custody for eight days on Wednesday in connection with setting fire to a car in a Nicosia car dealership.

The 23-year-olds were arrested on Tuesday after police examinations of the scene where the car arson took place in the early hours of Monday found that the incident was caused by a malicious act.

According to the police spokesman Andreas Angelides on Wednesday, one of the two suspects gave a voluntary statement in which he claims that he committed the arson at the request of the second suspect, who however has denied any involvement in the case.

Angelides added that the police have found evidence that the cause of the arson is a personal dispute between the owner of the car dealership and the suspect denying involvement. He said that the motive has been established and is being further investigated by the police.
