Blackmail suspect remanded in Larnaca

Larnaca court

A 37-year-old Larnaca resident was remanded for three days by the district court on Thursday on suspicion of blackmailing a 60-year-old into giving him €60,000.

According to police, the 60-year-old man filed a complaint against the suspect to Larnaca police on November 22, after finding a threatening note on the windshield of his car demanding the amount of €60,000.

The complainant told police he had found the note on the night of November 15-16, and informed officers of his suspicion that the suspect was behind it.

He was arrested on Wednesday afternoon.

Police investigations at the suspect’s house found and seized various pieces of evidence.

The 37-year-old has been involved with the police in the past for offences of a similar nature against members of the same family, police said.
