The British bases on Friday announced a routine emergency services exercise in Akrotiri on December 4, a day ahead of the arrival of Royal couple, Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Bases authorities urged the public not to be concerned if they hear sirens or see movement of personnel.

“The safety of those that live and work on and around the British Bases is extremely important to the SBAA/BFC. Therefore, it is essential that we test our emergency services and response teams regularly,” the announcement said.

“British forces Cyprus remains committed to restricting the impact of military training to a minimum where possible.”

Will and Kate will be visiting the troops at RAF Akrotiri on Wednesday as a Christmas gesture of support for overseas personnel.
