A minute with Constantinos Psillides Stand Up comedian

Where do you live?
I live in Strovolos with my lovely wife, an unsung hero who needs a statue just for getting through a day with me

Best childhood memory?
Saturday afternoons watching all the series on CyBC and enjoying the best burger ever made, from a place that was called Savory. Sadly, not there anymore.

Most frequented restaurant and absolute favourite dish? What food would you really turn your nose up to?
Peiragmena in Lympia. I absolutely love their experimental dishes! My favourite is the pâté with raspberry sauce. Out of this world. As far as dislikes, don’t really have any. If you plate it, I will eat it.

What did you have for breakfast?
A soup spiced with the tears of my enemies, drunk from the skull of a dragon, upon a mount of demon wings. And coffee.

Would you class yourself as a day or night person? What’s your idea of the perfect night/day out?
I’m close to 40 now so a day person. I don’t really have an ideal day out. I usually let my wife organise these things and just enjoy the ride!

Best book ever read?
I’m a hardcore Stephen King fan (my favourite one of his is The Stand) but the absolute best I read was Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. It blows my mind how such a short book can pack such a powerful emotional punch. The line “Tell me about the rabbits George” gets me EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Oh, and if you haven’t seen the movie adaptation with Malkovich and Gary Sinise, do yourself a favour and please do.

Favourite film of all time?
Lord of the Rings. I read the LotR books when I was young and always wondered how these characters would look. I was not disappointed. Those films always bring out the kid in me and I like that little dude. He is funny.

Best holiday ever taken? What’s your dream trip?
New York on my honeymoon. That was an amazing trip and I can’t wait to do it again! Dream trip? I have to say Japan, because I know it would just be that one time.

What music are you listening to in the car at the moment?
Whatever plays on the radio. It’s just white noise for me.

What is always in your fridge?
Me, usually

Dream house: rural retreat or urban dwelling? Where would it be, what would it be like?
My dream is to grow old with the missus and get a house up in the mountains, away from people and noise.

If you could pick anyone at all (alive or dead) to go out for the evening with, who would it be?
Robin Williams. I would tell him that I believe he is the best actor that ever lived and to ask him to not be so sad. I would tell him how much joy he has given me and other people around the world and that we miss him dearly.

If the world is ending in 24 hours what would you do?
Go on Facebook and post a motivational quote saying “Live every day as if it is your last”.

What is your greatest fear?
That I will live a life that is forgotten the moment I die

Tell me a joke…
I put in a lot of work on my jokes. I like them to be understood by anyone, so everyone can have a laugh. Basically, my jokes are like elementary school kids in Cyprus. Anyone can get them.

Constantinos promises nights of offensive comedy every other Wednesday at his stand-up comedy shows at Pub Fiction in Nicosia. The next one is on December 5 at 9 pm.
