Lute will ‘probably visit’ between December 15 and 20

Lute and Anastasiades at a previous meeting

The UN Secretary General’s envoy on Cyprus Jane Holl Lute will probably visit Cyprus between December 15 and 20, a high-ranking government source told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) on Tuesday.

Lute will visit the island with a view to clinching an agreement on the terms of reference that will pave the way for the resumption of Cyprus talks, the government source said.

The same source said President Nicos Anastasiades will fly on December 11 to Strasbourg where on December 12 he will address the European Parliament plenary. After that he will travel to Brussels where he will attend the EU Summit on December 13-14. He will return back to Cyprus on December 15.

On December 19 Anastasiades will fly to Israel to attend a Trilateral Summit among Cyprus, Greece and Israel scheduled to take place in Be’er Sheva on December 20. He will return to Cyprus in the evening of the same day.

Meanwhile Director-General of the European Commission Structural Reform Support Service Maarten Verwey was due to arrive in Cyprus on Tuesday, and was scheduled to have a meeting with the UNSG’s Special Representative in Cyprus Elizabeth Spehar in the evening.

On Wednesday he is scheduled to hold separate meetings with Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci. He will also have meetings with Foreign Minister Nicos Christodoulides, Interior Minister Constantinos Petrides and chief negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis.
