The director of the environment department of the agriculture ministry, Costas Hadjipanayiotou, is the next speaker in the second cycle of the specialised lecture series of the Open University of Cyprus (OUC) in the fields of environmental engineering & management, chemical engineering and terrestrial ecosystems management.
The lecture on ‘Environmental impact assessment in Cyprus, the new institutional framework and their role in the cyclical economy’ will be held on December 6, 2018 at the main OUC premises (33, Giannou Kranidioti avenue, 2220 Latsia, Nicosia) between 4pm and 6pm.
In his talk Costas Hadjipanayiotou will highlight the contribution of two environmental tools/strategies for achieving sustainable development, environmental impact assessment for public and private sector projects and the circular economy. He will refer to the methods of environmental impact assessment and how these in turn affect the achievement of sustainable development, as defined in the EU. The second part of the talk concerns the circular economy, the twofold aim of which is to bring together the environmental conservation with economic development.
The lecture series for the period October from 2018 until April 2019 is under the auspices of the OUC postgraduate programme of studies in environmental conservation and management. It is led by lecturer Antonis Zorpas and professor Ioannis Vogiatzakis.
The lecture series is supported by the office of the environment commissioner, the Cyprus environmental scientists and engineers ‘association, the technical chamber of Cyprus (Etek) and Cyta.
