Prestigious academic honour for UNic law school dean

Achilles Emilianides

An important honour for Cyprus, the legal world and the university community is the election of the Dean of the Law School of the University of Nicosia and lawyer Achilles Emilianides as a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (Academia Scientiarum et Artium Europaea), one of the most prestigious academic organisations in the world.

The European Academy of Sciences and Arts is a transnational interdisciplinary body that links some of the world’s leading scientists and intellectuals as regular members, including Nobel Prize winners and other internationally acclaimed academics. The European University “Alma Mater Europaea” operates under its aegis. The election of professor Emilianides concerns the field of Social Sciences, Law and Economics and constitutes a reward for his internationally recognised academic and scientific work.

Emilianides is the first to be elected as a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in his capacity as a professor at the University of Nicosia and as the fourth professor of a Cypriot university in general. He is also the first Cypriot jurist to receive this honour. This confirms the continuing internationalisation and excellence of the University of Nicosia, which has recently been included in the international rankings of universities. The festive ceremony of the admission of Emilianides to the European Academy of Sciences and Arts is scheduled for March 2, 2019 in Salzburg, Austria.
