Man remanded in grenade attacks

A 28-year-old man was remanded in custody for seven days in Famagusta in connection with the destruction of property with explosives and extortion.

The man, from Liopetri, was arrested in connection with two July incidents in Paralimni and Avgorou where fragmentation grenades were used. The man was arrested after the authorities matched his DNA to evidence collected from the scene.

A blast on July 26, at 2.30am, damaged two vehicles and the premises of a company, police said. Earlier, on July 19, a grenade was thrown at the home belonging to the mother of the company owner.
