Mr Andreas Kontos BSc(Hons) MBChB(Hons) FRCOphth
Andreas Kontos graduated top of his class from the University of Manchester medical school in 2005, also obtaining a 1st class honours degree in Neuroscience, graduating again top of the class. He trained in ophthalmology at Moorfields Eye Hospital and subsequently completed prestigious fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery at St Thomas’ Hospital and Moorfields eye Hospital in London.
He is on the GMC specialist register, a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a member of the European Vitreoretinal Society (EVRS) and the European society of retinal specialists (EURETINA).
The retina is a light-sensitive membrane lining the inside of the eye. It senses light and sends impulses to the brain to form images. The macula is the central part of the retina responsible for fine vision tasks (e.g. reading, recognising faces and driving). The spectrum of retinal diseases is immense, ranging from very common conditions such as diabetes and macular degeneration to much rarer conditions such as hereditary retinal dystrophies.
Mr Kontos subspecialises in the surgical, medical and laser management of diseases of the retina and allied eye structures, offering personalised care of the highest standard covering almost the entire spectrum for retinal disease. He is highly trained and experienced following years spent at tertiary referral units in the UK and has extensive retinal surgery experience both in volume and complexity.
