Bar review: Bono Bar, Limassol

Even though the summer heat is a thing of the past my need for a thirst-quenching beer is not. It feels that the colder it gets, the more one craves heavier, full-bodied beer to cool down with after work. To find such place has become easier than in days gone by and one to head to is Bono in Limassol.

Bono is right in the centre of Limassol – on one of the busiest streets in town – yet the décor, surrounded by trees and plants gives customers a break from the busy hustle and bustle of the area. Driving past you can barely peek in, you have to go there to see it and experience it and that is one of the great things about it. It is a place that is completely immersed in the city, yet essentially not part of it.

My favourite thing about this place though is that it is beer galore and they embrace it. They love it as much as I do. Walls are decked with the different beers on offer and you can also buy some for your own personal collection.

My personal favourite on offer is the Maresdous, which blends sour, sweet and bitter tastes, giving a full-bodied punch to every sip. And in essence, this is why one should indulge in more full-bodied foreign beers when the summer fades. The beers don’t go warm immediately and you are able to just sit back and enjoy. The options don’t stop there though, with the beer tidily separated into lagers, specialty beers, pilsner, blonde and so on, so there is a taste for everyone who is willing to step outside their comfort zone and try something new.

Nevertheless, beer is not the only thing on offer, as there is a rich variety of wine and spirits too. Moreover, with their rich starters and menus, it is an ideal place to spend a long relaxing afternoon.

Bono should be on your list to visit this winter – especially if you are, or even want to become, a beer lover.
