Rialto welcomes 2019 with packed schedule

No time is wasted for Rialto Theatre as it kicks off the new year with a line up of events throughout the whole month of January. Live broadcasts, concerts and plays are set to take place to continue the momentum that the holiday season has sparked. Here’s what to look forward to for the first two weeks.

After the first screening of the Royal Ballet’s La Bayadère on January 4 and André Rieu’s New Year’s Concert the following day, comes a production of one of the most acclaimed Greek theatrical plays, The Sound of the Gun on January 9. Written by Loula Anagnostaki and directed by Adonis Florides, the play Illustrating the strong bond between mother and son is presented for the first time on stage in Cyprus.
Next up Rialto has a two-day concert planned by Vasilis Papakonstantinou and Odysseas Ioannou on January 10 and 11. A year after their successful performance titled 9:05, which lasted three years, counted 270 concerts and gathered 130,000 spectators, the musicians will meet on stage again and perform beloved songs and narrate short stories about hope, beauty, fate, desire, the sun and the dream.

The programme continues with a live screening of the Adriana Lecouvreur opera, part of the Metropolitan Live in HD series. On January 12 Soprano Anna Netrebko takes on for the first time at the Met the title role of the 18th century actress Adriana Lecouvreur. The performance is co-production of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, Gran Teatre del Liceu – Barcelona, Wiener Staatsoper, San Francisco Opera and L’Opéra National de Paris. Given the large number of collaborators, the opera’s bound to be a mega-production.

Welcoming all forms of art suitable for the wider public, the next performance is a family multi-awarded show from Israel that has travelled all over the world. Four Fables and A Queen is a comedy in mime and in words for eight animals and one queen. A virtuous combination of words in English and Greek, with movement and drama that is said to captivate both children and adults.

There will be plenty more to follow be it piano recitals, Bolshoi performances or local theatre productions. To catch the rest of the cultural events for the month stay updated on the theatre’s website:
