Cyprus Symphony Orchestra concerts continue into New Year

Without a significant break from their packed programme over the Christmas holidays, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra is continuing performances in January and has even prepared shows until April.

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra has evolved rapidly during the new millennium into a modern, dynamic orchestra with a strong presence in the musical life on the island. At the same time, it is a national symbol representing Cyprus in Europe and beyond and never seeming to cease with their local performances.

Starting with their New Year’s concert on January 16, 17 and 18 with a tribute to Russia: from Strauss to Tchaikovsky, the orchestra will perform in three different cities. “Nothing says Happy New Year better than music by the Strauss Family, so it’s only fitting that the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra rings in the new year with, precisely, Joseph’s Winter Joy Polka and Johann’s Emperor Waltz,” say organisers.

Towards the end of the month, the orchestra is leaving their usual concert venues behind for three Magic of Dance shows in Athienou Gymnasium Events Hall, the Community Council Events Hall in Astromeritis and the Cultural Centre of Ayia Marina Xyliatou. Conductor Petros Stylianou and the orchestra will perform a musical conversation centred around dances close to the heart; the swaying waltz, the spirited polonaise and the happy-go-lucky polka. They’ll continue the repertoire by Strauss and Tchaikovsky yet with a touch of winter joy, inspired by the enchanted world of fairy-tales.

Later on in February, the Chamber Music Concert series continues with musicians of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. Two evening titles With the Sound of winds – Mussorgski and Michaelides will welcome five wind players joining forces for an interesting proposal comprising two suites originally written for piano.

The holiday season may be over yet the festivities and abundance of performances by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra are continuing entertain an provide quality musical evenings across the island, all throughout the year. With dozens more concerts coming up, stay updated and find out the year’s programme on their website:
