Elderly woman seriously injured crossing road

An 81-year-old woman remains critically ill in hospital following a traffic accident on Saturday afternoon.

According to the police, at around 5.20pm the woman was hit as she was trying to cross the road by a car being driven by a 60-year-old man on April 1 street in Sotira under circumstances that are still being investigated.

The woman was seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to Famagusta general hospital, where she remains in the intensive care unit.

An alcotest on the driver showed he had not been drinking.
