Woman arrested after police chase

A car chase by Limassol police on Wednesday night led to the arrest of a 20-year-old woman who was a passenger in the vehicle in which police found burglary tools and traces of drugs.

Police are still searching for the driver, whom the woman identified as a 37-year-old man. An arrest warrant has also been issued for one more woman after evidence was found linking her to the case.

According to the police, at 11.45 on Wednesday night in Germasogeia, Limassol police spotted a suspicious vehicle, which picked up speed upon noticing the police car.

The vehicle, driven by the 37-year-old man with the 20-year-old woman in the passenger seat, was immobilised in a nearby field where the two abandoned the car and attempted to escape on foot.

Police chased them but only caught the 20-year-old.

Police checked the abandoned vehicle, finding burglary tools, two knives, one pocket knife, one weighing scale, one glass pipe with traces of drugs, as well as various items such as mobile phones, sunglasses, and watches, for which the 20-year-old failed to provide satisfactory explanations, police said.

During police interrogation, the 20-year-old named the 37-year-old driver of the car, telling police that he was carrying drugs when he escaped, and also implicated one more woman in the case.
