A night for romantic tango

Tango is possibly the one thing that most people associate with Argentina. That and fine, juicy steaks. Later this month Technopolis 20 brings the art of tango a little closer to those in Paphos.

A Romantic Tango evening on January 27 consists of a clarinet, cello and piano performance by George Georgiou and Friends. Georgiou will be on the clarinet, Doros Zesimos on cello and Gergana Georgieva on piano, presenting the Clarinet Trio Op.114 by Johannes Brahms and the Four Seasons of Buenos Aires by Astor Piazzolla.

Hailed for his energetic and inspirational performances, Georgiou has had a varied career as a classical and contemporary clarinetist, both in Cyprus and abroad. After appearing in many solo concerts and recitals in Europe, the Middle East and the USA and premiering several works featuring the clarinet he set up the George Georgiou and Friends ensemble.

Under his artistic direction, the ensemble aims to provide high level concerts as well as specific masterclasses in the instruments featured at the series.

Part of the ensemble, Zesimos established himself as one of the leading cellists of his country. Currently, he holds a cello faculty position at the Cyprus National Music Schools of Limassol, Nicosia and Paphos, and also teaches at the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Scholarship Music Workshop and the English School in Nicosia. Evidently active in the local music scene, Zesimos is also a member of the bi-communal Cyprus Chamber Orchestra, Commandaria Orchestra, Concordia String Quartet, TratSik string quartet and often collaborates with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra.

The final and only female member of George Georgiou and Friends is pianist Georgieva who’s participated in numerous concerts around Europe and in her home country Bulgaria. Since 2008 she has lived and worked in Cyprus, where she continues to participate in concerts and presentations, in collaboration with Cypriot and foreign artists, as well as with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra.
