Dangerous and slippery roads after overnight rains (Updated)

Despite torrential rain and strong winds in the Larnaca and Famagusta districts during the night, no damage was reported.

Rain and snow in the mountains however mean that a number of roads are dangerous and slippery, police warned on Tuesday morning.

Many roads were closed on Tuesday morning due to torrential rain and snowfall which caused immense problems to the road network.

The following roads are closed for all vehicles:

In the Paphos district:

Arminou – Filousa – Kelokedaros

Episkopi – Natas

Ayios Geogios – Kidasiou

Kelokedaros – Trachipedoulas

Trachipedoulas – Salamiou

Kelokedaros –  Filousa

Kelokedaros – Amargetis

Salamiou – Galataria

Ayios Nicolaos – Kaminaria

Ayios Nicolaos – Pera Vasa

Giolou – Miliou (old road)

Panayia – Cedar valley

Kritou Marottou – Kannaviou

Akoursos – Adonis baths

 

In the Limassol district:

Gerasa – Kalo Chorio
In the Morphou area:

Vyzakia – Ayia Marina Xiliatou

Ayia Marina Xiliatou – Ayia Marina Xiliatou reservoir

 

Larnaca district:

Ayios Vavatsinia – Vavatsinia

 

Because of landslides, the following Tsada – Stroumbi and Pedalia – Panayia roads in the Paphos district are dangerous.

There were also landslides on the main road from Evrichou to Kakopetria near the entrance to the Kakopetria. Drivers should use the road via Galata and Ayios Nicolaos to enter the village.

Landslides caused problems on the following roads in the Limassol district:

Platres – Troodos

Agros – Karvounas

Amiantos – Karvounas

Paramytha – Gerasa

Ayios Ioannis – Agros

Lania – Trimiklini

Saittas – Amiantos

Moniatis – Platres

Trimiklini Pelendri

 

In the Nicosia district:

Gourri – Macheras – Kioni

In the Troodos area visibility is limited because of dense fog.
More snow, strong winds and rain are expected over the next few days and temperatures will fall to -7C in the mountains on Tuesday and Wednesday evening.

On Troodos square 50 centimetres of snow has been recorded.

The amount of water in the reservoirs overall is now close to 30 per cent, with the biggest, Kouris, still at 23.1 per cent of capacity while some of the smaller reservoirs are full and overflowing. Xyliatos dam also overflowed (see video below):
