The Nutcracker strikes again

The festive season may be over, yet the craze over the iconic Christmas story of The Nutcracker isn’t. This upcoming screening is from a live recorded performance in Moscow, featuring a fairy tale couple: Denis Rodkin, as a heroic Nutcracker, and Anna Nikulina delightful as Marie.

If you’ve been hiding away this holiday season (and possibly every other one) and don’t know what The Nutcracker is about, its plot revolves around Marie on Christmas Eve, when her Nutcracker doll magically transforms into a prince and their adventure begins.

“The holiday classic returns to the majestic Bolshoi stage for a live broadcast of a timeless story, The Nutcracker, taking audiences of all ages on a magical journey through a world of enchantment complete with dancing snowflakes and dolls that have come to life, accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s beloved score” say the team.

Tchaikovsky’s timeless ballet is loosely adapted from E. T. A. Hoffmann’s story ‘The Nutcracker and the Mouse King’. The delightful ‘Waltz of the Flowers’ is among its most well-known and recognised pieces.
The universal themes of love, power and good and evil are brought to life by The Bolshoi’s lavish and sumptuous sets and costumes but also Yuri Grigorovich’s choreographic vision, known for its romantic and philosophical approach.
