Two remanded after 15kg of cocaine found (updated)

Two men were remanded in custody for eight days on Thursday after being arrested on Wednesday with 15 kilos of cocaine in their possession.

Members of the drug squad stopped and searched a 36-year-old man at 7pm who was leaving the home of another man, 34, acting on information that the two men were using their residences to sell drugs.

They found the man was leaving the building carrying a military bag containing 14 kilos of the illegal drug.

Armed with a search warrant, the officers then searched the residence of the 34-year-old after they broke down the door when the man refused to open it.

He was found on the back veranda where he allegedly handed over another kilo of cocaine.

The suspect told police the drugs belonged to him.

During the search of his house, €2,010, seven mobile phones, a laptop and other items were found and seized as evidence.

The home of the 36-year-old man was also searched and three mobile phones, two precision scales and several other objects were confiscated.

Investigations are at an early stage and family and friends will be questioned in an effort to identify partners or buyers of the drugs, the court was told.
