Running can unite people

It seems that every year, everyone’s resolution is to get fitter. An upcoming gives the opportunity to get into that spirit, meet like-minded active people and run. Runite Nicosia invites runners from both sides of the capital to run a distance of about 7km around and inside the walls of Nicosia with the simple message that running can unite people.

The casual running event, held on January 29, will start from the Home For Cooperation at 11am and will take runners for the first 4km through Paphos Gate towards Eleftheria square, continuing on towards Famagusta Gate, Chrysaliniotissa, Ermou Street and crossing at The Ledra Street check point where the run will continue after the necessary ID checks, for the following 3km through the old town on the other side. The run will finish at the Home for Cooperation.

Organisers stress that the Runite does not constitute a race, but “a friendly initiative by fellow runners from both sides who have known each other for a period of time, in an effort to bring runners of all abilities and ages together and even symbolically ‘unify’ the city of Nicosia by running it”. So, no need to stress out and start prepping. Do wrap up however as the weather turns crispier and fingers crossed the skies are clear from rain that day. And to warm up and catch a breath post-run, there will be some hot coffee and tea at the finish at the Home Cafe.

All runners of all abilities are welcome to join as the pace will be easy and relaxed. A commemorative shirt will be given to the first 200 runners.
