Strovolos branded green capital of Cyprus

The Strovolos municipality was coined the green capital of Cyprus after it received the Green Moufflon award during the Environmental Awards 2018 hosted on Tuesday night.

A total of 28 awards were handed out by the government to organisations, municipalities and communities, while a special distinction was awarded to Cyta for being the organisation with the highest environmental score.

“As a government which invests in green policies and actions and by reforming local government, we not only recognise but also support your plans for sustainable development and green jobs,” president Nicos Anastasiades said during the ceremony, referring to Strovolos municpality.

Anastasiades added that communities and municipalities, as well as organisations and businesses, play an important role in sustainable development and the promotion of a cyclical economy through the promotion of biodiversity and cultural monuments, water and energy saving and by moving towards a carbon-neutral economy.
