Man arrested for running off with roof repair money

A 27-year-old Nicosia resident was arrested on Wednesday afternoon at the Ayios Dhometios checkpoint on suspicion of stealing €3,900 belonging to a 77-year-old man.

The 77-year-old Limassol resident had hired the suspect to repair the roof of his home for €3,330.

The full amount was paid on the first day of repair works, which the 27-year-old had undertaken along with a second worker.

According to the 77-year-old’s complaint, he had at some point left the house, leaving it unlocked with the workers inside, only to find once he returned that his roof had not been repaired.

The next day, he also realised that a sum of €600 was missing from the bedroom.

The 27-year-old was arrested on Wednesday afternoon, as he was attempting to cross to the north via the Ayios Dometios checkpoint.
